sorry to hear of your problems. 2K is too much to replace a head gasket. By now I'd guess the best advice would be to find a better mechanic. If they didn't set the timing right and you boosted/detonated, that would be their bad... Overheating could have any number of causes but over advanced timing will contribute. Don't know what agreement you had with the mechanic, and I can sympathize with his postion too - he obviously didn't know what he was getting into. Messy situation. Here's my advice Compression check engine Look for coolant in oil and HC's in coolant If engine is blown, don't waste time on head gasket etc. If the engine was overheated as you say, heads could be warped, require machining etc.
